Soul Ripping Romance Tag | Hollieblog | Hollieblog
There are so many blog tags going around, I can barely keep up. But I feel this one is going to be especially exciting because, while not reading a whole lot of romance, if it’s a romance I love, I LOVE IT. It’s crazy how much a hit and miss romance can be, but you know it’s good when you can’t stop smiling, your heart flutters just like the characters’ hearts do. A romance can make or break a book/show/movie, and the heart-wrenching, soul-ripping ones are the best. Thank you to the ever amazing Kate for tagging me. I love her and her blog so much so please check her blog out and tell I sent ya! Thank the person who tagged you and create a pingback to the original author – Nel at Reactionary Tales. Share at least 5 (but more are welcome) romances that tugged your heart strings. They can be from books, movies, TV shows, manga; anything you can think of! They can be examples of sad tears, angry tears, happy tears or a combination of all three. Nominate 5 (or more) people to share their emotional traumas (Note: Try not to spoil the story for your readers in case they would like to check out these romances on their own) Even & Isak – SKAM Come on, you know where you are right? This blog is basically a SKAM stan account. This show owned my ass for almost half a year, and it was all because of the season 3 storyline about Isak Valtersen, coming to terms with his sexuality and falling in love with Even Bech Næsheim. I’ve never watched/read a story that was executed so beautifully and thoughtfully; purely cinematic despite not being a movie. I would highly recommend you start SKAM from the first season, although unfortunately other romances on the show do not compare to the writing of this pairing. A real tear-jerker. Achilles & Patroclus – Song of Achilles Oh my God. OH MY GOD. I will always remember where I was when I finished Song of Achilles. It was the eve of my birthday, 2016, Panic! at the Disco had just released their new album Death of a Bachelor and I had Golden Days on repeat. I was sat, home alone, in the comfiest arm chair and the sun had gone down but I hadn’t pulled down the blinds yet because I was so wrapped up in this epic romance. The writing? Gorgeous. The story? Super sad. The characters? I WANNA ADOPT THEM. Satine & Christian – Moulin Rouge! Moulin Rouge! was, I can say for certain, my first time seeing an epic love story. It was the first time I had experienced emotions based on that love, and I became so obsessed with it that the minute I finished watching the video, I ran outside, called on my friends, and we all pretended we were swinging in that swing that Satine dances on in her first appearance. I had never been moved by a movie before, never been brought to tears like that; it was an emotion I didn’t understand. I was 7! I didn’t know why these fictional characters were making me feel this way! It was such a powerful moment in understanding love and I owe it all to the beautiful portrayal of Satine and Christian’s relationship set during the turn of the century in Paris. Tanner & Sebastian – Autoboyography For someone who rolls their eyes at instalove, I really do love instalove sometimes. Tanner and Sebastian pretty much fall in love with each other the moment they see each other, and while I would usually get annoyed and maybe even DNF a book like thay, Autoboyography manages to portray this love in a poetic yet realistic way. I was rooting for the both of them so much, and I never, at any point, felt like it was a classic YA trope done wrong. Cath & Levi – Fangirl I read Fangirl a long time ago, but I remember absolutely falling in love with Cath and Levi’s relationship. They were so respectful and kind to each other, and it’s great to see that in a popular YA novel. Rainbow Rowell does a fantastic job depicting romantic relationships, but Cath and Levi really take the cake in showing how a relationship can be beautiful and healthy! It’s really sad to look back at this list and not see a F/F relationship that I love. I have read novels depicting F/F pairings, but I’ve never had the flutter of butterflies like I have for these pairings. I’m calling myself out here; I should be reading and watching more, it’s the only way to come across my favourites. As a queer woman, I wish this list was all F/F pairings, or at least the majority of them were. So, any recommendations of beautiful, epic F/F pairings that you adore would be greatly appreciated! I’ll also be scouring the internet and my local bookshops for them too.
