MOULTRIE [mdash]Gloria Frances Dolan Rogers, 96, of Moultrie, died on Monday, September 9, 2019. Funeral service will be held 10:00AM Saturday, September 14, 2019 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Interment will follow in Cobb-Suncrest Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Born May 31, 1923, in Anamosa, Iowa, Gloria Rogers was the daughter of Dr. Henry Francis Dolan and Mrs. Rosemary Viguerie Dolan. Mrs. Rogers graduated from Mundelein College in Chicago, Illinois, and worked as a registered dietician at Charity Hospital in New Orleans, where she met her husband of 58 years, Dr. Edward A. Rogers, Jr., who was a surgical resident at the time. Dr. Rogers, a longtime OB-GYN in Moultrie, predeceased his wife in 2005. Having lived in Iowa, Seattle, Texas, and Nashville, Dr. and Mrs. Rogers made Moultrie their home in 1970. Mrs. Rogers was an active member of and served in several leadership positions in the Moultrie Women’s Medical Auxiliary, the Moultrie Garden Club, and the Moultrie Federated Guild. She also worked part-time as a dietician at the Colquitt County Health Department. She used her knowledge of food and expert skill in cooking to open Maria’s Tea House, a Moultrie restaurant specializing in luncheons and bridal showers. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Moultrie. A lover of art and music, Mrs. Rogers was a longtime supporter of the Colquitt County Arts Center. She summered in Brevard, North Carolina, where she was a patron of the Brevard Music Center and sponsored opera and symphony students who attended the BMC summer residency program. She also volunteered at the Brevard Hospital during her summer stays. Mrs. Rogers had many passions in life and was a collector of antiques, art, dolls, and quilts. She loved animals and supported the work of the Moultrie Humane Society. She also loved to play bridge with her friends, and she could always be found sporting a hat and wearing her signature seersucker suits. An avid cook, she was known for her pies, cinnamon rolls, and mayhaw jelly. Mrs. Rogers also enjoyed traveling, and her excursions included a monthlong tour of China, a trip to Spain, and a journey by train through the Canadian Rockies. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. E.A. Rogers, Jr., originally from Pelham, Georgia; her parents, Dr. and Mrs. Henry Francis Dolan; and her siblings, a sister, Joan Kmetz, and a brother, F.X. Dolan, both of Ocean Springs, Mississippi. Survivors include daughters Patricia (Patty) Rogers Norman and her husband, Ed, of Norman Park, Georgia; Yvette Rogers Robinson and her husband, Gene, of Marietta, Georgia; Maria Rogers Anthony and her husband, John, of Maynard, Massachusetts; and sons Judson Rogers and his wife, Anne Blake, of Nashville, Tennessee; and Pierre Rogers and his wife, Sandra, of Moultrie, Georgia. Mrs. Rogers is also survived by grandchildren Rosemary Vereen D’Louhy, Annie Vereen, Henry Norman, Morgan Robinson, Dolan Anthony, Hunter Claire Rogers, Beau Rogers, Keith Mangum, Katie Mangum Bain, and Caroline Rogers, as well as three great-grandchildren and many friends. Mrs. Rogers also leaves behind her wonderful caretakers at Magnolia Manor in Moultrie. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Colquitt County Arts Center and Moultrie Humane Society. Cobb Funeral Chapel has been entrusted with arrangements.
