n the summer and fall of 1888, Jack the Ripper surreptitiously maimed and murdered prostitutes in Whitechapel, an impoverished district of London, England. At the time, Whitechapel was a labyrinth, a maze of cobblestone streets, dark alleyways, and shanty apartment buildings. It was, more or less, the perfect milieu for the perfect killer.
