The Keys to Our Success: 23975 Liam McKeracher on “Emoji Leadership”
23975 Liam McKeracher 23975 Liam McKeracher recently had the opportunity to share what he’s learned as Project Management Professional. As he explains, “I wrote a chapter within the second edition of The Keys to our Success. This book is a compilation written by project managers and the goal for each chapter is to provide one key tip or trick to succeed in leading projects. The audience for this book is project leaders but would be helpful to anyone involved in aspects of project management. My chapter, ‘Emoji Leadership: Communicating with the Next Generation of Project Leaders’, focuses on digital communications and showing recognition within project teams.” So how did he get involved with this particular project? “I got involved when I answered an open call from one of the editors, David Barrett,” he said. “David was looking for practicing project managers to contribute and I submitted my idea around how emoji’s and other written forms of emotion can be used with comprehension and compassion to make communications more effective.” Since his graduation from RMC in 2007, Liam has amassed more than little experience in the field of project management. “I began planning and executing projects while in the RCN and found that I really enjoyed those aspects of my work. The led me to the discipline of project management and a Graduate Certificate in Project Management from Royal Roads and a Project Management Professional (PMP) designation. I’ve been working full time in this field since 2013. I fully retired from the Reserves in 2018 and at the moment, I am a Project Manager with the BC Ministry of Health working in the data and analytics IT field. I also teach Project Management with a private company called the Project Management Centre of Excellence. In my spare time, I’m an active volunteer in the community and the President of the Vancouver Island Chapter of the Project Management Institute. In this volunteer role, I lead a non-profit organization that promotes project management on Vancouver Island.” The Keys to Our Success, which went on sale on 24 Jan, is available for purchase here.
