No. 2803 Lt Joseph Philippe Rousseau 1st Canadian Parachute Battalion Killed in action, Normandy 6 June 1944 Ex Coelis and back by 29022 Marks Valtonen – We stepped through the door and fell through the clouds. As the planes begin to slip from our sight, the green silk above our heads become shrouds. They fire at the sky, filling it with light. – It is strangely calm above the earth. Not a sound but of wind or faint gunfire. But wait…we are not in the right spot! We must regroup soon; our mission is dire. – The earth is quickly approaching whilst we brace ourselves for what comes next: hitting ground.
