In his State of the City address (available here in PDF) yesterday at the Shaw Conference Centre, Mayor Don Iveson said there are four crucial "pipelines" that must be established in order to actively shape Edmonton's economic future. The "export" pipeline, the "investment" pipeline, the "talent" pipeline, and the "innovation" pipeline are what we need for growth in Edmonton. Most of what Mayor Iveson told the packed room was simply a rehash of ideas he and other local leaders have been sharing for years, updated to use the startup language of the day. What was different this time was the very specific audience he was speaking to. It wasn't a speech for all Edmontonians, or for community leaders, or even for the business community.
