Eileen Burgess - Q4 Art Competition
I have been painting and drawing since childhood. I obtained a BFA – Painting from the School of Visual Arts in New York. I received a MFA – Painting from Brooklyn College, Brooklyn, NY. My biggest influences are Pop Art and Photorealism. My goal as an artist is to capture the viewers’ attention, to draw them into my work and trigger emotional responses. My subject matter varies – still lifes, portraits and urbanscapes. My preferred medium is oils and I often paint from my own photos, reproducing the inherent precision of line, but giving my own interpretation of the image. I use color, perspective and lighting to create powerful, balanced photo-like representations. My past exhibitions have included the SJC Council for the Arts URBAN SOUL and the Salmagundi Club Annual Exhibition for Non-Members. Previously, I also participated in the National Oil and Acrylic Painters Society first online exhibition, Art Takes Times Square, Art in Flux Harlem and A Tribute to Women in the Arts at the Leroy Neiman Art Center in New York. I won a meritorious award in the Richeson 75 International Still Life and Floral Competition in 2013.
