Film, poetry and art events in September/October - The David Oluwale Memorial Association
FILM on Thursday 20th September 2018, 7.30pm: In partnership with the Leeds Black Film Club, we are screening the important documentary film Blacks Brittanica that includes reference to the killing of David Oluwale. This is a rare chance to see a film made in 1978 that presents analysis of racism and anti-racist struggle from leading black British intellectuals and activists. Followed by a Q&A with the film-maker, Arthur France MBE, Courtney Hay and others. 7.30pm at Seven Arts, 31 Harrogate Road, LS7 3PD. More information and tickets (£5 and £2.50) here POETRY: On National Poetry Day, 4th October 2018, at 7pm in Chapel Allerton Library, we are supporting the launch of Any Change? Poetry in a Hostile Environment. This is a new collection of poems responding to the Windrush scandal and the migration crisis, edited by Ian Duhig. Partly arising from the Wandering Abroad Poetry-writing Workshop we organised in April 2017, this new booklet includes local, unpublished poets as well as established writers. At the event, poets reading will include Ian Duhig, Halima France-Mir, Ahmed Kaysher and Sadhu. Free.
