Who Will Avenge Us? A Cinematic Endgame - Movies In Focus
Movies In Focus finally caught J.C. Chandor’s Triple Frontier on Netflix. It’s a great flick. Who doesn’t want an entertaining tough hombre heist movie? It’s a guys on a mission, neo-western. Swap a helicopter for a stagecoach and this could have been a John Wayne movie. Ten or fifteen years ago this type of movie would have banked $100 million at the US box office. Now it’s a straight to streaming movie. That’s no slight against this Ben Affleck-Oscar Isaac starrer, it’s a well crafted piece of entertainment. But can you imagine seeing it on the big screen? I’ve said this a million times before, but comic book movies are killing the movie-going experience. Mainstream movies used to be more than CGI and spandex. We’re getting to the point where we are only going to get films like Avengers: Endgame on the big screen. Give us heart, soul and cinematic tangibility. Companies like Netflix are giving us nourishment in this world of cinematic fast-food but the medium has shifted. Movies have changed forever – and I don’t think it’s for the better. Related
