Weekend Box Office Lowdown: July 15, 2012 - Movies In Focus
Ice Age: Continental Drift is set to top the box office over the weekend with an estimated $46 million take. That’s on a par with 2009’s Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs which scored $41 million, for a $196 million final total (the highest grosser in the series). Time will tell if this franchise has life left – or if it is facing extinction – you get the drift? The Amazing Spider-Man held-up well on its second weekend, dipping 44% . The $35 million weekend take means that the web-slinging adventure has now scored $200 million at the domestic box office. Globally the film has grossed more than $521 million. These are good numbers, but the film will fall short of the final grosses of the Sam Raimi/Tobey Maguire films at the domestic box office. R-rated comedy hit, Ted should greet Monday morning with an additional $22.1 million. That gives the Mark Wahlberg starrer an impressive $158.9 million cumulative gross. Disney/Pixar’s Brave should bank $10.6 million over the three days, for a $195 million total.
