Steven Spielberg Sees Sense And Delays ROBOPOCALYPSE - Movies In Focus
I think we can all agree that it’s good news that Steven Spielberg has postponed production on Robopocalypse. The science fiction actioner, set to star the interesting combination of Chris Hemsworth, Anne Hathaway and new Q, Ben Whishaw was expected to start shooting in April. The film (and title) sounds terrible, a cheap Asylum-style Terminator knock-off. Spielberg is much better than that, especially now that he is coming off the critical and commercial hit that is Lincoln. This is what I said before: “Why would Spielberg want to make this when he has a conveyer belt of films that he could potentially make? It’s sure to be a cash cow, and it’s easy to see why the cast signed on (working with Spielberg), but (on the surface), there’s nothing new here that James Cameron didn’t cover in the Terminator series. I think that Hemsworth and Hathaway are good casting choices and I’ll throw my hands up and admit that I was wrong if this is a genre ‘game changer’ (god, I hate that phrase), but I don’t expect that to happen.” Spielberg had this to say in the delay: “We found that the film was costing a lot of money [...]
