Mel Gibson Set To Direct WWII Drama HACKSAW RIDGE Starring Andrew Garfield - Movies In Focus
Mel Gibson is one hell of a director. The man knows how to shoot visceral action like very few do and it’s verging of criminal that the last film he directed was 2006’s Apocalypto. However, he’s now said to be in talks to direct Hacksaw Ridge, a film set during the WWII Battle of Okinawa. According to Deadline, the film tells the ‘true story of Desmond T Doss, the first conscientious objector in U.S. history to win the Congressional Medal of Honor. Doss was a U.S. Army medic who served in World War II during the Battle of Okinawa and refused to kill. President Truman awarded him the Medal of Honor for saving so many lives.’ This sounds like it’s perfect fodder for Gibson’s sensibilities as a director, mixing passion with violence. Deadline states that Gibson is only in talks for this, but the chances of him wielding the megaphone are good – it was co-written by Randall Wallace, the man who scripted Braveheart and directed We Were Soldiers.
