The mission of the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute’s Pakistani Students Association (RPI PakSA) is to display Pakistan’s rich heritage and culture through social and educational events. RPI PakSA aims to create and enhance awareness of Pakistani culture among the Rensselaer community and promote South Asian unity among Rensselaer students. Furthermore, RPI PakSA focuses on allowing students to interact with members of the Pakistani community from the Capital district and encourages Pakistani students to organize and participate in community service programs. RPI PakSA also organizes philanthropy events and fundraisers to provide monetary aid to promote better health care, education, and overall wellbeing in Pakistan. For example, on November 20th, 2015, RPI PakSA hosted their annual Charity Dinner and raised $1,509. This year’s proceeds will be given to the Zakat Foundation to support victims of the recent 7.5 earthquake affecting Pakistan and Afghanistan. As many of the villages most violently shake by the quake are not easily accessible and additional reports of fatalities and damage are expected to increase, RPI PakSA hopes that proceeds fundraised are able to contribute aid in Zakat’s efforts to support victims of the natural disaster.
