Sankofa: Grasp | LSRadio - Liverpool Student Radio
'Meat in the mouths, Death on the minds, Blood on the path with warning signs' Such animalistic musings introduce Liverpool quartet Sankofa's ink-stained single, Grasp. Jarring melodic guitars tease low rumbling bass-lines and destructive drums, giving the track an altogether unsettling tone. Placing this against frontman Stephen Wall's darkly prophetic idioms regarding the human race ('Safety in numbers, Alone with each other'), helps lift the track above something generically indie, and nods to a vintage of socio-political uprising. Societal criticism is more than apparent in track's the video; riots, greed and rage grapple with the viewer, but – impressively – none of this eschatological weight detracts from the music itself. Instead, it acts as a backdrop where shouting and conflict are substituted for Sankofa's intense composition of solos and cymbals. Sankofa have forthcoming gigs at; The Kazimier, Friday 20th February supporting The Sundowners The Zanzibar, Saturday 18th April
