Small Town Firefighters in the Big City
SCHUYLKILL COUNTY -- Our part of Pennsylvania is known for having an extraordinary number of volunteer fire companies but full-time paid firefighting jobs can be hard to find. For some, the solution is a very long commute. At 2:30 a.m. on a rainy autumn Monday, Mick Uranko leaves his home in Pottsville and begins the 177-mile drive to the nation's capital. The three-hour trip is only the first challenge of the day for the man who lives in Schuylkill County but works in Washington D.C.
