Aurora to allow more people to apply to become police officers and firefighters
AURORA, Colo. — The city of Aurora passed a new rule allowing non-citizens, who are permanent legal residents, to apply to become police officers or firefighters, which the police and fire departments say will bring more representation to their forces, and will allow more people to apply. The city’s Civil Service Commission passed the new rule this week, which takes effect immediately. The requirement now reads: “Eligible candidates must be a citizen of the United States or a person who is lawfully admitted for permanent residence, in accordance with the Immigration and Nationality Act."
