At least 9 killed as 3 California wildfires destroy thousands of structures, force evacuations
LOS ANGELES -- One of three major wildfires roaring though California has obliterated 80 to 90% homes in one town and left at least nine people dead, officials said Friday. They also said the Camp Fire in northern California has destroyed 6,713 structures and grown to 140 square miles. The fast-moving wildfires have prompted thousands of residents to flee, sometimes through jam-packed flame-lined streets that forced evacuees to chose whether to try to drive to safety or to get out and run.
