El Fuerte is the most beautiful colonial town in northern Sinaloa. Lots of history here, for centuries it was a major trading post for gold and silver miners from the canyons. Some lovely colonial mansions line the cobblestone streets leading to a central Plaza de Armas, that comes alive in the evenings. One of this old mansions was restored in 2006 to a beautiful boutique hotel, the Hotel Torres del Fuerte, a must see when you are in El Fuerte. One of the most prominent historic buildings is City Hall, built at the end of the 19th century and it was designed in the neoclassic style. The elegant entrance made up of many arches opens to a beautiful colored, arched, multi-story interior patio. Two blocks away is the Museo-Mirador who welcomes you to view a small art collection. The Posada Hidalgo, another historical building, also from the 19th century, is adorned with murals and graceful interior arches.
