What is hypnosis like? Hypnosis can be described as a daydream state. It is a very natural state that we go in and out of many times a day without even realising it. It is when we are in a state of focused attention such as when we are engrossed in a television programme or a book and we are oblivious to what is going on around us. We go into this state when we are listening to music, out for a run, driving, etc. In the consultation room the client will lie on a couch and go into a trance state whilst the therapist uses a guided relaxation. Will I remember everything from the trance? You will remember some of what the hypnotherapist says during trance, but not all. It works just the same as normal memory, so for example, if you were to watch a television programme you would remember most but not all of it. Will I reveal personal secrets? No - you remain in complete control. You will not be asked any questions whilst in trance and you will only have to listen to the sound of the
