The Arne Jacobsen Petrol Station | that nordic feeling
I am a great fan of beautiful architecture as well as design. Lucky for me I live in a country filled with both. One of the masters of both was the late Arne Jacobsen (1902-1971). Last year I took you to see his gorgeous Smokehouse in Havnebyen Odden and today I want to show you another one of his masterpieces – a petrol station called Paddehatten (the Mushroom) located just north of Copenhagen. It is considered among his finest functionalist masterpieces – I couldn’t agree more! The weekend before last I went on a road trip with a good friend of mine. We had such a fun Saturday with many fab stops on the way. I brought my camera along for the ride so I could catch some of my favourite sights for the blog. I already shared photo overload from our stop at the gorgeous Bispebjerg Kirkegård filled with more cherry blossoms than you could ever dream of. The petrol station from 1938 is still operating – in fact we filled up the car while we were there. The facade is lined with white Meissner tiles to signal purity and cleanliness.
