Pilgrimage : Moulay Brahim and the Gnaoua - Sannyassa
Moulay Brahim, a small town 40 miles south of Marrakech is named after the saint of the same name, whose common local name is Tayr al Jabal, meaning the Bird of the Mountain. A famous pilgrimage, moussem, and festival on the anniversary of the Mouloud, the Prophet's birth, is held in the mountain town, where Gnaoua musicians lead pilgrims to symbolically and actually recreate ancient legends and creation beliefs, including lila and the ritual sacrifice of a camel symbolically at Tamesloht and actually at Moulay Brahim.
