Senate committee kicks off research initiative
The U.S. Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions committee held a hearing yesterday on continuing U.S. global leadership in research and medical innovation. The witnesses were Francis Collins, director of the National Institutes of Health, and Margaret Hamburg, commissioner of the Food and Drug Administration. The chair of the HELP committee, Sen. Lamar Alexander, R-Tenn., began the hearing by stating this is the beginning of the Senate’s version of the U.S. House Energy and Commerce committee’s 21st Century Cures Act.…
