‘Good Lives’: how we helped to improve social care in Essex
We spent three months from January to March 2015 getting to know Essex’s adult social care system. As one of their senior managers said, they operate an efficient ‘assessment for services’ factory. We helped them to understand how they could do things better – for people and families, for staff and for their budget. They initiated their ‘Good Lives’ programme in May 2015. They had 8 volunteers to run innovation sites in their first phase. Their evaluation proved significant financial benefits as well as increased satisfaction for people and families, and improved productivity and work fulfillment for staff. Their second phase of innovation, the start of ‘rolling in’ Good Lives to all of their adult social care activity started in March 2016. We are continuing to support the development of their programme.
