Simone Manuel of USA and Penny Oleksiak of Canada Get Gold and Together Make History - Rio 2016 - MY NAME IS HOLLYWOOD KHAN
In Rio on Thursday night Simone Manuel of the United States became the first African American woman to win an Olympic gold in an individual swimming event, while Penny Oleksiak became the first Canadian to win four Olympic medals in the summer games and gold making Canadian history. This was an extraordinary 100m freestyle final, in which Manuel tied for gold with 16 years old Canadian Oleksiak, who only turned 16 in June. Perhaps it should be noted their has never been a color barrier in sports, and now here you have two girls two colour winning gold, that is Olympics.Manuel said that her victory was extra special in the context of ongoing race issues in the U.S. “It means a lot, especially with what is going on in the world today, some of the issues of police brutality,” Manuel said. “This win hopefully brings hope and change to some of the issues that are going on. My color just comes with the territory.”“I hope for the day when there are more of us”- @simone_manuel,1st black #USA woman indiv. #swimming #gold #Rio2016 pic.twitter.com/uc03Z2g0LG — Beatrice Frey (@BeaFrey) August 12, 2016Nothing says it better than this tune by Three Dog Night ‘Black and White’. by
