“I’m Not That Kind Of Person”
Here’s some statements I hear often from my clients… “I can’t do that.” “I’m not built that way.” “I don’t function like that.” You ever find yourself making any of these statements? I love when I hear these statements because it opens the door for me ask them… “When did you decide that’s who you are?” You ever ask yourself that? When did we last decide who we are? What we can and can’t do? How we’re built and not built? How we function and not function? I use to define myself as not being a morning person. For no other reason than it’s what I decided. I remember a good buddy of mine saying to me a few years ago he just wasn’t a runner. Even within my own family and upbringing, while I loved my mom growing up, I never said to her, “I love you mom”. Crazy right? That’s just not what I did. That’s not how I was built. I mean I’m Portuguese, we’re suppose to be tough guys right? Who decided all this? Who I was and wasn’t? How I was built and not built? I wish I could tell you because I don’t really know. It wasn’t until I started questioning my blueprint of “who I was”, “what I did” and how I told myself “I was built” that I began to make changes so that my blueprint was one I wanted, one I believed in. One that accurately represented me. Not one that had been formulated years ago. Unconsciously developed without my input. One that stood, one that I followed, one that I never questioned just because. I now question ever bit of my blueprint to make sure it’s me. Who I consciously want to be, must be, and will be to have the health, happiness, and fulfillment I desire in my life. By the way… I’m now a morning person (love waking up early). My good friend who wasn’t a runner has since ran four marathons. And I now tell my mom I love her every chance I get 🙂 Because that’s who I am. That’s what I do. Question your blueprint of who you’ve told yourself your are. Because it’s our own personal blueprint that’s guiding all of your decisions. A blueprint we have complete control over to decide what’s in it and what’s not. More in this episode of my Mornings With Mike podcast. Thanks for being here. You’re awesome… Mike
