ICE FISHING: DNR Warning
One way to take advantage of the cold weather is ice fishing. This cold snap has seen many anglers travel to local lakes to indulge in the seasonal activity, although it’s started later than normal.DNR officials are warning fisherman to use caution at different waterways across the state especially those south of Highway 20 in eastern Iowa.On Thursday the ice at Lake McBride stayed around 3 to 4 inches thick but could increase this weekend.Chris Mack with the DNR advises to, “take a spud bar, hit it. See if it punches through. Drill holes frequently checking for ice depths to make sure you're still safe.”The DNR says fisherman should look for clear ice to go out on and to always fish with a partner.
