MURPHY’S LAW: Hawkeyes Bounce Back, Cyclones Stay Perfect
By Chris HasselConfident Northern Iowa fans dominated the conversation throughout the week, but it was the Hawkeyes that dominated the line of scrimmage on Saturday. Iowa out-gained UNI, 203-94, on the ground, on its way to a 27-16 victory. After Damon Bullock and Greg Garmon left the game with injuries, Iowa was left without a running back. Who needs a running back when you've got Mark Weisman? The sophomore fullback doesn't have a scholarship but he's got game. Weisman rushed for 113 and 3 touchdowns. Weisman's performance was cute against Northern Iowa, but the Hawks will need more than just a fullback if they want to win some games in the Big Ten. While Bullock appeared to get knocked out, Garmon looked like he dislocated his elbow. No timetable on either's return. Iowa opens up Big Ten play on September 29th vs. Minnesota. The Cyclones are doing what we all expected them to do against Western Illinois. As I type, ISU leads it 28-0 in the third. The defense looks great, and the offense is doing what it needs to do against an inferior opponent. Now the Cyclones get a bye before beginning Big 12 play at home against Texas Tech.Iowa State is 3-0 for the second straight season. Looking ahead at the schedule, ISU will definitely be favored in 2 of its 9 Big 12 games (vs. TTU and At KU). They could be underdogs in the remaining 7, meaning they'll have to take care of business and pull off another upset to become bowl eligible. I don't see any reason why ISU can't win 6 or 7 games. It will be really interesting if the Cyclones can get past TTU and head to TCU with a 4-0 record. Cyclones.tv is definitely better than the old CloneZone. John Walters said the production value would be better compared to last season, and he was right. Now, if I could just figure out how to hook my computer up to my TV. Still living in the dark ages. Nebraska head coach, Bo Pelini, had to leave Saturday's game against Arkansas State by ambulance. Pelini was taken to the hospital shortly after halftime for flu-like symptoms. He was released and is expected to return to work on Sunday. Nebraska beat Arkansas State, 42-13.Well-wishes to our man Keith. Murph has been bed-ridden for the last 48 hours. He left a message on my phone this morning and he sounded like Darth Vader. The poor guy made it through RVTV without getting sick for the first time ever. It was coming home that made him sick. Ironic.I received a flat-brimmed hat as a gift, this week. My wife told me I wasn't allowed to wear it outside the house --- so I gave it to Andy.
