FEMA FUNDING: Polk County To Receive Flood Mitigation Money
Des Moines will soon be getting some federal money to reduce potential flood areas. Senator Tom Harkin announced Thursday that Polk County has been awarded a $7 million FEMA grant to fund projects that will reduce flooding. Harkin was chief sponsor of the legislation that expanded the program following the floods of 1993. It is designed to help state governments implement long-term projects in order to mitigate future flood hazards.
