INMATE COMMUTATION: Branstad Denies Seven Applicants
Governor Branstad has denied seven applications from Iowa inmates seeking commutation. Three of the applicants are serving life sentences for murder, two others were convicted of robbery, and two more were convicted of kidnapping and sexual abuse. In his 18 years in office, Governor Branstad has commuted life sentences of three inmates. Most recently he commuted the sentence of Raspberry Williams who was sentenced to life without the possibility of parole in 1974, after fatally shooting a man after a dispute.
