Chairlift stalls at Breckenridge, riders evacuated by rope
BRECKENRIDGE, Colo. -- A mechanical problem stalled a chairlift at Breckenridge Ski Resort Thursday and a number of skiers and snowboarders were evacuated from the lift by rope.It happened on the Peak 8 SuperConnect lift at about 1:30 p.m. according to Kristen Petitt Stewart, Breckenridge Ski Resort spokeswoman. She said members of the Breckenridge Ski Patrol evacuated 40 chairlift riders with ropes. The rescues were completed by 4:15 p.m.“At some point you have to make that decision when people are sitting there, if we can fix it and how long is it going to take versus evacuating folks,” Petitt Stewart told the Summit Daily News. The mechanical problem was solved, and the lift was scheduled to reopen to the public Friday morning. There were no injuries.
