Contribution by Allan Chow (not yours truly). Thanks Allan !! The Toronto Maple Leafs have signed forward, 27 year old, Matt Martin to a 4 year $10 million dollar contract. Martin, formerly of the Islanders, has 42 career goals in 438 games. He made his mark as an NHLer by being the league's hit leader. At 6'3 and 220 pounds, the big left winger from Windsor totalled 365 hits last year and has 2023 total hits in his 6 year career. He adds a needed physical presence to a lineup that will be young and probably will have many smaller players. In Lou Lamoriello's presser, he explained Martin had good size and speed and the coaching staff liked him. He should be a good fit. Martin has averaged around 11 minutes of ice time and that should continue with the Leafs, as Lamoriello stated "Matt was brought into play a similar role as he did with the Islanders.
