Darth Vader: If you only knew the power of The Dark Side! Obi-Wan never told you what happened to your father. Luke Skywalker: He told me enough! He told me you killed him! Darth Vader: No. I am your father. Admit it, your inner voice read Vader's words in the iconic voice of James Earl Jones. The actor in that suit was actually David Prowse, a British man with a voice as far off from the baritone they gave the character as imaginable. So why did they make an entirely different actor voice over another's work? Because the right voice can make a moment, a scene or a memory, come alive. This is not news, this is why newscasters, announcers, presenters and any person who has to speak for a living spends so much time ensuring that their voices are clear, understandable and often either honing or losing accents in order to appeal to the widest range of listeners. There's a reason you remember Vader as such an imposing figure; his booming voice helped make his impressive presence felt.
