Dunleavy's Professional Touch Could Be What Tulane Needs
Mike Dunleavy, a former NBA player and coach, was named head basketball coach at Tulane last week. Dunleavy, who has never coached on the collegiate level, coached seventeen years in the NBA, last manning the sideline for the Los Angeles Clippers in 2010. While there are no doubts about Dunleavy's knowledge and coaching skills, there will be questions on whether or not he can recruit. A keen observer of professional talent, and a former player himself, Dunleavy will have to prove he can go into the homes of potential recruits and get them to campus. Tulane's program has been on the decline, not appearing in the NCAA Tournament since 1995.
