High cell phone bill? Washington state partly to blame
OLYMPIA -- Receiving that monthly cell phone bill is a cringe-worthy experience, especially as many of us pay more than $70 a month on data and voice packages. But it's not just the phone companies that are jacking up the prices -- it's also Washington state. State residents pay the second highest state and local wireless tax in the country, according to a recent report by the Tax Foundation, a self-described non-partisan organization providing analysis on federal and state tax policy.
