New Prime Minister named in Iraq, White House offers congratulations
IRBIL, Iraq (CNN) -- U.S. Vice President Joe Biden called Iraqi Prime Minister-designate Haider al-Abadi on Monday to congratulate him, the White House said. Al-Abadi "expressed his intent to move expeditiously to form a broad-based, inclusive government capable of countering the threat of the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL, also known as ISIS), and building a better future for Iraqis from all communities," the White House said in a statement.
