Officers rescue 3 children after getting stranded on Long Island Sound
NORTHPORT, N.Y.-- Three children in a canoe were rescued by officers after they were stranded more than a mile away from shore on Long Island Monday evening, police say. Suffolk County police say 12-year-old Davin Miles, his brother 10-year-old Kenyon Miles and their friend 12-year-old Chris Gurr left from Crab Meadow Beach in Northport to go fishing early Monday evening. However, police say, as they paddled out and away from the protection of the shoreline, the wind increased and blew them about one and half miles offshore.
