Man Convicted in Retired Officer’s Deadly Hit and Run Gets Maximum Sentence
STOCKTON-- The man convicted of a hit-and-run that killed a retired Stockton police investigator received a maximum sentence of four years Wednesday. Sergio Chavira, 57, was arrested in December 2014, just days after he hit and killed Jimmy Pendergrass. Pendergrass was once a full-time traffic investigator for the Stockton Police Department. Before his death, he had been working part-time in background investigations.
