Trauma has many faces and impacts on us. There is not just one category. Some of us experience a traumatic event and shake it off, and move on with their lives, only to get caught up in the shadows unexpectedly years later. Some others may go through intense emotional and mental challenges immediately after experiencing trauma, and then one day decide that they are done coping with it and declare themselves as “doing fine”, only to realize later that on the go they adopted a whole set of unhealthy habits. Many people think that trauma related disorders such as anxiety, depression, sleeping and eating disorders, and PTSD are not “real” enough to ask for help, while others believe that they are chronic and thus cannot fully be overcome. I can assure you that trauma can be overcome.
