Dark Photography of City Lights Views
One of my favorite genres of Dark Photography is the Skyline City Lights shot. Is there anything more beautiful than the bright lights of the big city juxtaposed against the darkness of black night? Is there any scene so humbling than that of a veritable concrete jungle, Amazonian in it’s scale, and awesomely rich in it’s population. A population diverse with a thousand different cultures, classes and motivations. The city lights skyline view evokes an energy deep within that feels almost primal in its force. I can remember flying into cities such as Tokyo, Hong Kong, Singapore, Las Vegas and New York to name a few, where eyes become transfixed the moment the streets and buildings below come into view. With heart rate ticked up past even the familiar “I’ve had a few too many Expresso’s” level of unease, along with the pang in my stomach, foretells of a future not yet known. That is, a future filled with possibility on one end of the spectrum and ripe with uncertainty and even fear on the other.
