Opportunities and Challenges for Fine Artists - Creatives at Work
Althrough creatives professionals in many fields consider themselves artists, the Bureau of Labor Statistics has a somewhat narrower definition. In the Occupational Outlook Handbook, the term artist includes art directors, craft artists, fine artists (painters, sculptors, illustrators), and multimedia artists and animators. While the outlook is bright for some types of artists (e.g. multimedia artists), very few fine artists can support them solely through sales of their work. Most hold at least one other job. This post highlights some of the challenges that fine artists are facing, as well as emerging opportunities.
