A WEEKEND IN FLORIDA - COLLEEN'S TRAVEL BLOG
Hello buddies! I am writing this post on a lounge chair next to a screened-in pool in Florida. My thighs are burned to a crisp (thanks spray sunscreen) and my hair is poofing to maximum levels, but I’m feeling good overall! Let’s get caught up on the past few days. On Friday I kind of just hung out at my parents’ house. I took all these photos of Gibby in the yard and I’m so mad because I accidentally turned off the autofocus on my camera so they’re all blurry. Oh well. Even though he’s out of focus, you can tell he is totally zen and happy. We drove to Florida this time around. I’ve actually never driven to Florida before, though we have driven to other beach vacations in the South. For me personally, it was easier to just sit in the backseat of the car for 13 hours rather than deal with two flights from Columbus to Jacksonville. Did I mention I have ridiculous flight anxiety? Besides, it was cool watching the country turn from spring to summer as we drove south. When we arrived in Florida on Saturday night, my aunt had a delicious wok of shrimp Pad Thai ready for us! After a couple beers and a soak in the hot tub, I was ready for bed. So in Florida, people have their backyards and pools screened-in to keep out all the bugs and lizards and creepy crawlies. Apparently my uncle accidentally left the door to the pool open a crack because this creep was in the pool room on Sunday morning! He’s an Eastern-Eyed Click Beetle and I hate him. Sweet potato hash and eggs for a Mothers’ Day brunch. Our parents went to a golf tournament, so my sister Morgan and I celebrated Mothers’ Day by embracing the fact that we are not mothers. We packed up a cooler with some cocktails in to-go cups and drove the Jeep to the beach. My gorgeous sister! I have to wear a hat at the beach because #paleproblems. Actually, I should have been under a tent or something but what can you do? After soaking up the sun for a few hours, my sister and I went to a bar on the beach called Sliders. They had a really cool mural…and that’s pretty much the only nice thing I can say about that place. After happy…
