I’m a social worker. I worked at the Cummings Centre for almost three years, mainly with Holocaust survivors. I love my job and I decided to do my Master’s in social work so I’m back in school and now I’m currently a social worker in the emergency at the Jewish General Hospital. I grew to love working with older adults when I worked at the Cummings Centre. The best part, really, was working in the community and giving back to the community. It was so special for me because when I was younger, I went to summer camp and at a certain point, my parents got divorced and couldn’t afford to send me anymore, and so the community sent me to camp. It meant a lot for me. I think it makes your job that much more special when the community has given to you, and then you’re able to give back. | In Montreal

My biggest realization throughout my time working with Holocaust survivors at the Cummings Centre was that I was there to listen to their stories. That’s the best part of working with Holocaust survivors: they create a relationship with you where they feel comfortable enough to share their very personal story. It’s also amazing to see how resilient they are; to see what they’ve gone through and that they came to Canada and built a life and a family. It gives you a lot of strength to see them. It teaches you the quality of life, what life is, and how money is not as important as important as health and happiness.
