Insect Lover Opens Egg Sac Full of Baby Spiders
Queensland citizen-entomologist Lisa Van Kula Donovan captured the frightfully beautiful moment she gently pulled open a Golden Orb Weaver’s egg sac on February 8, releasing dozens of baby spiders into the world. Van Kula Donovan, who works at a Hervey Bay caravan park, said she took the mother home from the park’s kitchen after some guests were startled. She said the mother spider later made a large web on the side of her house, laid the sac on a plant on her verandah, and then disappeared. “The plant she laid it on was old and dying so I carefully removed the sac and brought it inside for a few weeks,” Van Kula Donovan told Storyful. “Since it’s still nice and warm, I knew it was okay to release them and opened the sac and placed it onto the hydrangea where they would have good cover from wind and rain until they balloon away.” Credit: Lisa Van Kula Donovan via Storyful
