Helping Shelter Pets: PetSmart Donates Food To Animals In Need by Robbi Hess As a pet parent to a houseful of rescues, I understand the important work that shelter operators undertake and the monumental task of keeping the cats and dogs in shelters fed and healthy. I know I cannot feed every pet nor can I adopt every animal who is residing in a shelter, but if I can do more by buying food and helping feed an animal in a shelter, you know I am committing to buying my pets' food at my local PetSmart! Photo credit: PetSmart In celebration of its thirtieth anniversary, PetSmart is launching its Buy a Bag, Give a Meal™ program. For every bag of dog or cat food purchased online and at all its stores across the U.S., Canada and Puerto Rico, PetSmart will donate a meal to a pet in need served by pet shelters, animal welfare organizations and food banks. PetSmart anticipates donating more than 60 million meals as a result of this program that kicked off March 1 and runs until December 31, 2017.
