Summer Spotlight: WakeMed Movies by Moonlight
Ahhh- summer. Barbeques, swimming pools and a favorite summertime tradition, outdoor movie nights. As a family of 6 we are ALWAYS on the lookout for fun things to do around the Triangle on the cheap and with the four kids home all summer, it's even more important. Anyone else being eaten out of house and home?Nothing beats kicking off our shoes, snuggling on a blanket with the kids and catching a hit movie outdoors for free, or at the very least, at a super affordable price.Koka Booth Amphitheatre in Cary hosts the WakeMed Movies by Moonlight series about three times a month during the summer and it's a favorite place to spend an affordable, balmy summer night catching a blockbuster. Most movies are family-friendly but there are a few adult features on the schedule as well. (The steamy Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga duet will be on the screen in A Star is Born at the end of the summer line-up.)Gates to the venue open at 7pm on show days but the movies don't start until dark (approximately 8:15-8:30pm). Coolers, snacks and beverages, and lawn chairs are welcome but when we bring the kids, we just carry blankets and leave everything else at home. We take advantage of the fact that there are always great concessions sold at the venue. Before the movie, there are lawn games to keep everyone entertained and we usually enjoy a game of frisbee by the lake while we wait for the sun to go down.
