We’re on the prowl for nifty tips and tricks and all the latest drinking trends to keep us drinking differently but we’re not quite sure how we feel about the latest US trend among Mixologists and the likes… Since recent laws have passed, the use of Cannabis is mostly legal and widely used in parts of the US market and among the trendy bars, you might find that your favourite drink now comes in a ‘different’ option, i.e. infused with marijuana. Naturally, we had to dig a little deeper and find out more about this craze… While the use of cannabis is illegal in the UK and BY NO MEANS do we endorse the use thereof, we couldn’t help but love the names of some cannabis infused cocktails we found! We have of course, put our own (legal) twist on these highly (pun intended) enjoyable cocktails and are thrilled to share some delicious recipes for you to have fun with ;) THE MARGAWEEDA No, there’s no cannabis in here. But the weed or herb, -nay the flower we infuse this cocktail with, is sure to take your taste buds on a trip! Ingredients: 1x tsp sweet ginger puree 2x Kaffir lime leaves 5ml lemon juice 2x shots vodka 10ml Rooibos ice tea Fill with ginger beer and top with a pinched Sichuan button Directions: Tear The Kaffir lime leaves and smoosh them up in the bottom of your shaker along with the ginger puree. Add the rest of the ingredients (not the Sichuan button!) and get shaking! Strain over crushed ice into your margarita glass. Now for the fun part!: Pinch the Sichuan button and run it around the rim of the glass then dip it quickly in the drink before placing it to float gently on top. The twist: You’ll owe your “trip” all to the Sichuan button! The chemical it produces is spilanthol which will make your taste buds buzz and tingle followed by a numbing sensation in your mouth and lips, you’ll soon start to salivate and finally feel an icy heat take over your mouth. BLOODY MARY JANE Don’t be fooled by its cool temperature, the Bloody Mary Jane guarantees a kick thanks to the fiery tabasco sauce and piping hot jalapeno peppers. Take a sip and get ready to take your taste buds on a red hot journey. ½ ounce simple syrup Three dashes Worcestershire sauce 150ml tomato juice 3 drops Tabasco sauce 1 tablespoon lemon juice Lemon twist, salt and pepper and celery stalk are all optional. 2 Jalapeno peppers Directions: Throw everything in a blender to reach your desired consistency and enjoy. The twist: The spicy jalapeno peppers will take you on a flavour/taste adventure that will leave you wanting more, just like a sweet addiction. POPPING POMEGRANATE An easy to make cocktail, with a sweet secret. Pair vodka up with an array of juices, syrup, popping candy, with a touch of rosemary and voilà! INGREDIENTS: As much Vodka as you want 70ml Pomegranate juice 30ml Cranberry juice 30ml Apple juice Popping candy Rosemary ½ ounce simple syrup Directions: Shake well and pour over ice. The twist: The popping candy will dance on your tongue and taste buds, and leave you feeling like there’s a pomegranate party happening in your drink! So maybe we haven’t found the answer to the decade old debate of the use of cannabis, but if you’re looking for Sichuan, spicy or a sweet flavour, we’ve got you covered. These cocktails are bound to take you on a taste trip without the cannabis infused crash.
