DAY 4 - The Essence of Shreemad Bhagavatam
On Day 4 of the Shreemad Bhagavatam course, Paramahamsa Sri Swami Vishwananda continues to narrate on some of the most well-known stories found in Hinduism. The discourse begins with the story of Jaya and Vijaya (the gatekeepers of Maha Vishnu) and how they became cursed to incarnate on Earth. The story of Jaya and Vijaya sets the context for the appearance of Lord Narasimha, the half-man/half-lion incarnation of Maha Vishnu. In addition to this, Swamiji gives commentary on perhaps the most universally-known story in Hinduism: the Churning of the Milky Ocean. The Churning of the Milky Ocean is a Hindu classic that has inspired the Kumbh Mela, the vast pilgrimage of Hindu’s that occurs cyclically. Also included in Day 4 is the story of Gajendra, the elephant king who got himself locked between the jaws of a crocodile, and had to surrender himself to the Lord for salvation. Towards the end of Day 4, Guruji covers two more incarnations of the Dashavatar by including the Vamana Avatar and the Matsya Avatar into his commentary.
