How to Transition Your Skincare Routine for Spring
Thankfully spring is on its way. After a very harsh Canadian winter, we are ready to shed those thick layers of clothes and creams and look towards warmer days and sun-kissed skin. As we transition into this new season we must remember that our skin experiences those changes as well. We go from dry, itchy skin due to weather conditions, hot showers, and heaters to a quick increase in humidity and sunshine causing your skin to be more oily and shinier than it has been in the past few months. It can be quite a shock, especially for our super sensitive skin. So how then can you prep your skin for this transition? We’ve got some tips for you on how to transition your skincare routine for spring to keep that glow all season long. Spring clean your skincare routine We recently spoke about spring cleaning your skincare routine in our How to Spring Clean Your Mind and Home blog post. Here was our tip, “Now is a great time for you to go through your skincare and get rid of any products that might be out of date or put away those heavy creams that you won’t be using in warmer weather. Giving your beauty shelf a little lift by keeping it minimal can help calm you during your pampering moments in the morning and night. We like to keep it very simple in the spring and summer months with just using a gentle cleanser followed by the Restorative Facial Oil (our Award Winning product for Best Facial Oil) in the morning and the Soothing Lotion at night. It’s important to change up your regime seasonally because your skin goes through a lot of extreme changes especially if you’re in Ontario like us and one day it’s -30 degrees and the next it’s +14. It gives your skin its best chance to glow.” Repair winter’s damage Once you’ve transitioned your products it’s time to repair winter’s damage by exfoliating. This will help to remove dry skin and start fresh for the season. It will also help increase blood circulation, unclog your pores, and help your other skincare products to penetrate deeper into the skin. Which leads us to treat any sensitive, inflamed areas with our Soothing Lotion. Its velvety texture made up of Shea Butter, Manuka Honey, Aloe Vera, Beeswax, African Mahogany Tree Bark, Calendula, and Lavender Oil glides over your skin to help calm any irritations. We follow that up with our Protective Cream that will give you a boost of hydration and protection towards any environmental elements. Moisturize your skin Now it’s time to swap your heavy creams for lighter ones. Making sure your skin is still getting the hydration it needs without the heaviness. With more humidity in the air, your skin doesn’t need those thick lotions but it still needs hydration. We opt for the Restorative Facial Oil on warmer days. It has a beautiful blend of 11 botanical oils that gives you all the benefits, including balancing and strengthening. Think of it as your multi-vitamin for your skin. Add an SPF If you haven’t already added SPF to your routine now is the perfect time to start. With days getting longer, sunrays getting stronger SPF will help shield your skin from harmful UV rays while helping to prevent wrinkles, fine lines, and discolouration. We usually increase our SPF from a 15-30 to a 30-50 in the spring and summer months. As we mentioned in our blog post How to Transition Seamlessly into a Skin Care Routine for Fall, it is important to listen to your skin and your body regardless of the season. We are ever changing and adapting so staying in tune with yourself will help you understand your body and skin better which will lead you to be able to give it what it needs. Introducing these tips into your skincare routine will help ensure the transition into spring season is as seamless as possible.
