Breaking Ground in the Field-to-Face Skincare Industry
In the world of natural cosmetics and skincare, it’s not every day that you dig up an ingredient that is truly unique and effective. So when our Bloomeffects founder Kim Jensen discovered the never-before-used powers of Dutch tulips, she knew she had to bring these botanical benefits to life in her own line of natural skincare products. How did she pick tulips? Well, they actually picked her. You see, Kim fell in love with a fourth-generation Dutch tulip farmer named Hein, and she actually moved to the Netherlands to be with him. It was then and there that she was introduced to the family’s globally renowned, award-winning royal tulips. Her idea for Bloomeffects tulip skincare was planted—but it still had to be proven. Would the field-to-face concept actually work? Together with HM van Haaster, Hein’s family business, and Kim’s longtime beauty-biz colleague Monica Aurigemma, our bloom-believing team set out to verify the benefits and efficacy of the flower. They received a Dutch government grant that allowed them to commission a leading Dutch university to conduct research on the usage of tulips in skincare. Bloomeffects’ star ingredient proved to be as beneficial as it is beautiful. First, it was observed to promote cellular growth. Tulips are one of the only flowers that continue to grow after being cut—up to an inch or more—because the cells in their stems are particularly responsive to the plant hormone, auxin. Auxin, which is derived from the amino acid, tryptophan, causes them to elongate. Auxin also help to promote regeneration and can be used for the repair and growth of tissues throughout the body. In skincare, this translates to aiding in the production of collagen, the building block for smooth and youthful-looking skin. Lastly, tulips are super stars when it comes to water retention (read: moisturizing). In fact, a tulip can hold up to its entire body weight in water and uses the precious resource for almost every function, from energy creation to providing the flower structure itself. Next, we partnered with an innovative U.S. lab to create the most advanced natural skincare formulations that utilize these potent benefits. After the tulip bulbs are harvested, the stem cells are extracted, which forms the basis of the Bloomeffects Proprietary Dutch Tulip Complex. The complex is rich in antioxidants and natural moisturizing factors that help make skin look and feel softer, smoother and glowingly hydrated. You’ll find this complex in all Bloomeffects natural skincare products and natural cosmetics, along with other earth-sourced botanicals and highly effective ingredients. Bloomeffects is the first skincare brand ever to harness the botanical power of tulips—but tulip skincare is just the beginning. With access to HM van Haaster’s amazing variety of blooms and our exceptional natural skincare product research partners, we have many more opportunities to expand our collection of field-to-face skincare.
