Language hierarchy, in order: Main Languages English French German Italian Spanish Other interests Croatian Dutch Greek Things I've done a little bit of in the past and would love to get back to Catalan Portuguese Breton Bulgarian Beyond those, I've had a little bit of dabbling in a ton of others that interested me at least briefly. Ultimately, I'd love to be able to at least conversationally speak all EU languages. I have an accent/dialect in English that I'm proud of and I will fight you if you tell me I shouldn't be. I don't care for the word "fluent". The man behind the languages. Masterpost on vlogs. Feel free to ask me whatever you want - in whatever language. :D (Unless requested otherwise, most asks will be posted publicly) (Informal pronouns are nice, by the way ^^)

Ehhh... to a point? ish? Other than French, most of my use is still pretty passive. I use French actively on a daily basis by virtue of living here and I’ve been able to use my German much more since the summer – mostly passively as I translate from German to English (which is actually far more lucrative a combination than French>English, who knew) but I’ve been using it actively a little to communicate with project managers in Germany and Switzerland and sending emails in German has stopped being QUITE as stressful as it was a few months ago hahaha. I’m also getting a handful of Italian translations a month so there is some exposure but that’s still pretty passive.

Spanish tho... we don’t talk about her.

I guess it’s a small improvement! ^^’

I definitely enjoy it overall, very few regrets! My master’s itself was a nightmare and the final paper was a Slog™ but i’m better for it, so i sometimes regretted during but not after hahaha, then i had a good job in a bad company for a while that finally predictably ended badly but again i got a lot of good takeaways from it, and now I’m just starting out as a freelancer which is definitely absolutely being complicated by the whole pandemic thing, but we’ll see how it goes :p

so pretty much whenever i make irl language friends i end up talking about hull/yorkshire english at least a little if not a lot

and anyway one of my friends the other day, i was talking about one of my translations that was ridiculous and he wanted to read it and so was like “gizza skeg” and it was fab

#my heart was singing#this week in corpus class we were talking about 'hypocorrection' which was defined as#trying to speak in a ''non-standard'' register you don't speak and fucking it up#(the example given was french politicians who go to the banlieue and 'try to speak wesh')#and anyway i told him all about that time michael mcintyre fucked up 'the-dropping'#and it was fab

i got my timetable for next semester and like

i have 15 classes

5 of which are on saturdays

i had 11 this semester and it was already hard enough

i’m once again preparing my excuses for why i will be a shit blogger who will not be here sorry xxx

#i have 3 clashes with tutoring/teaching#and 2 of which may be unmovable like#there's nowhere in my week i can put them#so i will also have extra financial worries this semester too#i love this this is me doing what i want to do with my life

I have 2 exams tomorrow, one of which i am underprepared for, and yet i’m going to a concert tonight because i am an idiot

in fairness i have had tickets for marco mengoni since MAY so i couldn’t’ve known and i’ve already cancelled one concert for school i refuse to cancel another one so i am going to go enjoy myself spitefully

my prof used an imperfect subjunctive while lecturing today

to all of my old french teachers who told me i’d never need that tense? fuck yaselves

we had to write a review of an article and I’d talked about the picture “sur la Une” and the prof corrected it on word and sent it back and apparently “une” doesn’t take a capital

so in the margin there’s just a comment/note that says “(name) deleted: U”

and i’ve been giggling for ages
